Derby QUAD - latest Nowcomm Connected Building
![]() |
Nowcomm have recently completed an advanced IP-based communications infrastructure for QUAD’s new building; a new contemporary arts, cinema and media centre in partnership with Derby City Council.
What was implemented:
An intelligent Cisco PoE-enabled network infrastructure was installed which could deliver a multitude of services from an operational perspective, whilst also supporting the demands of the digital facilities on offer to visitors. This system embraces the true benefits of IP technology, through offering integrated services such as data, video surveillance (Axis and Milestone), telephony, voice messaging (Cisco UC) and public announcement (Berbee) over both wired and wireless connections (Cisco) as applications on the network, rather than disparate and unrelated systems. All of these technologies are protected by a comprehensive security solution including firewall, VPN, access control/RADIUS and Anti-X to help ensure the availability and integrity of the systems at all times.
Complexity is reduced as management, administration and operational tasks are all conducted in a more efficient manner as part of a single environment, leading to greater flexibility in deploying new services and reacting to visitor needs.
Why the customer chose Cisco:
Cisco was the only vendor to successfully demonstrate the benefit's of an end-to-end solution. The powerful features of the Cisco LAN, enable all the complimentary applications to successfully co-exist.
Why the customer chose Nowcomm:
Nowcomm were able to provide a bespoke solution that not only provided the features required but also met the customer's project timescales and deliverables.
